Description

The Achuar people are an indigenous Amazonian group that lives in the Ecuadorian and Peruvian Amazon rainforest. Anank is a community of over 40 people in the Ecuadorian Amazon who still largely survive through hunting and the growing of yucca and plantain. Due to climate change, deforestation and poverty, there are increasing pressures on this community. At the moment these people are not involved in any trade, but this project is one of the ways they could generate sustainable income to help them withstand these pressures.

The Achuar pottery is an ancestral tradition passed on through generations. The Achuar artisans use clay and mud to produce bowls that are used to prepare and drink chicha, and other medicinal drinks, as well as to prepare and eat food.  On the bowls they use traditional and modern designs depicting animals.
