Description
The weavers of Sumbi-Regua are based in the Cordillera province in the south-east of Bolivia. The people’s wisdom is is contained in “sumbi” (weaving).
The Sumbi textiles reveal aspects of the Isosean culture and its mythical universe through symbolic codes, becoming a true expression of its identity and reflecting the spirituality of Isosean weavers, who say they “dream” the designs.
They use two techniques: the karakarapepo style, the most sacred of the two, and the moise style, more figurative with fauna and flora motives.
